SOUTH Wales firefighters attended a large blaze at a house in Chepstow this morning.Fire crews from Chepstow and Caldicot attended the derelict house on Hardwick Avenue in the Garden City area of the town after receiving a call at 5.08am.Three crews arrived at the house at 5.16am and remained on the scene until 8.04am.There were no people in the house.The large fire has caused worries as to the structural safety of the two-storey building and a structural engineer will be called in to assess the site's future.

"It's always nerve-racking to wake up in the middle of the night to see blue lights coming through the window, but catching first sight of the house fire and seeing two fire tenders already controlling the blaze was very comforting," said local resident Dave Harley.The fire is being treated as suspicious and Gwent Police officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.If anybody has information, or saw anything suspicious in the area, call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
