FINAL permission could be granted for the 450 homes on Wonastow Road in Monmouth in the next two weeks.

The plans, which have already received outline permission from Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), will be inspected in more detail by the town council next Tuesday (26th May) at a public meeting.

The meeting is due to be held at 7pm in the Shire Hall and is open to members of the public who wish to ask questions or make comments on the issue. The two developers have also been invited to attend.

Town councillors will then make their recommendations to MCC ahead of them making the final decision on Tuesday 2nd June.

Outline permission was given in September 2014 for 370 homes on the Wonastow Road, with a six hectare plot for industrial units which formed part of the housing development plan for the next ten years.

However, developers Barrett David Wilson Homes and Taylor Wimpey have since submitted plans for 450 homes with the additional housing going on the adjoining Trewen plot.

At this stage, permission has been granted to put houses on the site, but Monmouth Town Council still has the option of recommending refusal of some of the details to county council, such as materials or the design of houses.

Details about the plans can be found on the MCC planning portal under application numbers DC/2015/00390 and 00392 along with further details under 00404 and 00226.
