FARMING was celebrated on Thursday July 30 with a 24 hour event that shared appreciation to all the work farmers do in the community.

The event is run by Farmers Guardian and is sponsored by Morrison’s. The special day began from 5am for 24 hours where people could take part by using hashtag Farm24 on social media posts to help share the importance of farmers while giving the public an insight into the day-to-day realities of what their job entails.

Senedd Member, Laura Anne Jones said: “Farm 24 is a fantastic opportunity to shine a spotlight on the hardworking farmers and farming families who work around the clock to produce our food, care for our countryside and keep our rural communities alive.

“Farming isn’t a nine to five job. It’s a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year.”

“As Shadow Minister for Food Farming and Rural Affairs, being from a farming family I’ve had the privilege of meeting farmers across Wales and the UK, and I’ve seen first-hand the dedication, resilience and passion that goes into every single day on the farm, often in incredibly challenging circumstances.

“Our farmers deserve more than warm words. They deserve a government that backs Welsh farming, protects our food security and understands that producing food must always come first.

“Today is a chance to say thank you to every farmer, farm worker and farming family for everything they do.”

Stephen Senior MS said: “Farming is the backbone of so many communities across Wales. It’s not just about producing food. Farmers support local businesses, create jobs, protect our countryside and pass on skills and traditions from one generation to the next.

“We should never take our farming families for granted. They deserve our thanks, our respect and policies that give them the confidence to invest, grow and continue producing the food our country depends on. I wish everyone taking part in Farm24 the very best.”
