A CHEPSTOW father is preparing to walk 100km to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

Andy Hosking will take part in the Action Challenge London to Brighton walk to raise awareness for Cancer Research.

Andy was touched personally by the disease in 2010 when he was diagnosed with eye cancer. Sadly his mother, Janice Hosking, is currently battling the disease.

Saturday 28th May will see Andy walking the 100km stretch from Richmond Park in London all the way down to Brighton.

This isn’t the first time Andy has selflessly put himself through a gruelling challenge. In 2014, Andy walked 100km from Putney Bridge to Henley as part of the annual Thames Path Challenge.

Andy raised £4,000 for Rogiet girl Ruby Atkins who needed to raise £40,000 for a life changing operation in order to walk unaided.

Andy said: “Back in November 2010 I was diagnosed with eye cancer, which thankfully due to its location was caught and treated before too much damage was caused.

“Unfortunately the down side is the radioactive plaque applied to destroy the cancer has left me partially sighted.

“On the 15th January this year, this evil disease struck again. I received a call from my mum saying that following a recent scan and appointment with the hospital, she has cancer. On the 12th February she started her first chemotherapy treatment, a gruelling seven hour session which has taken its toll, leaving her very tired.

“She will have a further three sessions over the next 12 weeks, then onto radiotherapy to ensure the cancer has been eradicated.

“The plan will be to complete the journey in under 24 hours, so I anticipate being on my feet for 18 to 20 hours actual walking with breaks in between.

“All being well, I will be met at the finish by my beautiful wife and daughter for a well needed hug and more importantly, my mum.”
