SOME explosive discoveries were made on an island off the coast of Magor by the Black Rock Lave Net Fishermen on Monday 13th November.

Some of the fisherman, who are based in Portskewett, made a trip to the rarely visited Denny Island in the Severn Estuary.

The visit was rewarded with some unusual finds including a Second World War bomb and some cannon balls.

This dangerous boat trip is only possible on calm neap tides in their small boat.

The fishermen were able to scale the island as the nesting birds are now long gone and were rewarded with some stunning views of the estuary from its summit.

Unfortunately they also made the more disappointing discovery of a large amount of plastic which had made its way to the island, it was even used by the birds to build nests.
