Sir,
Today, the postman delivered a leaflet from housebuilders Taylor Wimpey proclaiming PROPOSAL FOR NEW HOUSING IN MONMOUTH.
The proposed location was 'land to the north west of Vauxhall Fields' with a potential for 360 dwellings.
An extract tells: "Over the past few weeks, we have been explaining to local councillors, community and business representatives" etc, etc.
No councillor or community representative has been listening or speaking on my behalf. Indeed, in the absence of a local councillor being specifically delegated by Monmouth Town Council to this particular task, he/ she is acting as a private individual and any views expressed would be no different than that of a member of the public stopped at random while walking up the street.
My response to Taylor Wimpey to their proposal will be, "No. No. No. This would inevitably lead to an extra 360 dwellings in Monmouth in addition to those already in the pipeline".
This is not a simple choice between Wonastow Road and their proposed site as implied. The question which needs asking of the public is: "Do you want the green fields to the north west of Vauxhall Fields to be taken out of agriculture and covered in yet more houses and roads in addition to the sites already earmarked for new houses?"
