SIR,

AS one of the Five Ways School evacuees to Monmouth from 1939-1944, I was very interested to read Janet Hancock's letter in your pages on Wednesday 18th September.

Her father, Mr Birch, known affectionately as Billy Birch by us pupils, is still talked about by us at our monthly Five Ways old association lunches. Our Hon Secretary is Colin Spencer (0121 427 6375), a former master at Five Ways from approximately 1958-1998.

Another evacuee, David Forman (01656 66789), and I meet every two to three months in Monmouth for nostalgic lunch, so if Janet still lives in the Monmouth area we would like her to join us for lunch.

If Janet Hancock lives in the Birmingham area and contacts Colin Spencer, we would like her to attend our Christmas lunch, Monday 10th December at Harborne Golf Club, where we could arrange to pick her up.

We had a big F.W.O.E reunion at the Monmouth Priory in September 2009 when around 70 evacuees attended, and covered by the Beacon.

Do contact us Janet.
