CONGRATULATIONS to Alex Hill (‘What about the residents of Wyesham?’ Beacon letters 9 Aug 23) for what must be the longest letter published in the Beacon ever!

Alex makes a very powerful arguement for why the residents of Wyeham feel greatly concerned about Monmouthshire County Council’s decision to close the Wye Bridge for repairs this autumn. I hope he is being listened to by our county councillors as well as council officials.

During the period of the repair Monmouth will be split in two, and a huge number of users of the bridge will be denied what is effectively a strategic connecting route funneling commercial vehicles across the Wye on a daily basis.

The bridge is of vital importance to the people of Monmouth, but of Wyesham in particular - has adequate provision been made for them? Alex clearly thinks not.
