MORE than 1,000 car and bike enthusiasts gathered in Penallt last weekend for the eighth Penallt Vintage Car and Bike Show.

The event, which is held every two years, drew an impressive collection of enthusiasts and interested onlookers, and a record number of entries.

Around 160 cars and bikes attended, beating the previous record of 150.

In addition to the classic vehicles, there was also a raffle, tea and cakes, a licensed bar and ice creams to keep visitors cool in the sunny weather.

The event raised a total of £2,000 for the village hall charity.

John Tudgay, organiser of the event said: “We’re over the moon about it.

“When you’re organising a show eight or so months in advance you never quite know how everything is going to work out.

The beauty of our show is that we don’t know what’s going to happen. Anyone can turn up at any time throughout the day and there’s a real range from classic cars and bikes to modern classics.

“A good time was had by all.”

The car and motorbike people would most like to take home were a Jaguar XK150 and Norton motorcycle, and the winners of the show were a Rover 3.5 litre coupe and an Ariel motorcycle.
