Monmouth’s St Mary’s Priory Church will again host the town’s male voice choir Annual Gala Concert. This year, on 4th October at 7.30pm, the concert, the 13th to be held by the choir, will feature Camerata Vocalis from Tübingen University in Germany.
This German chamber choir concentrates mainly on a wide range of a cappella repertoire. The choir are wonderful musical ambassadors for both Germany and the University of Tübingen, one of the oldest in the country and have toured worldwide. The mixed choir, some 30 strong, will be conducted by their Musical Director Philipp Amelung. Philipp has been with the choir since 2011 and before that conducted the Munich Symphony Orchestra. The Monmouth concert will be the final leg of the choir’s short UK tour, the choir having also performed at Bath Abbey and in Chepstow. Music aficionados can expect to hear pieces from Finzi, Holst, Purcell and Vaughan Williams, a veritable feast of music.
Monmouth Male Voice Choir will provide a fantastic contrast with their vocal power and Welsh hwyl. This year followers will be treated to many new numbers which the choir have been busy learning in readiness for their third visit to the Royal Albert Hall in June 2026. The town’s vibrant male choir continue to go from strength to strength and in November will return to the Principality Stadium entertaining supporters prior to the Wales v Japan rugby international. Now mustering almost 80 choristers, the choir is a male voice enigma, continuing to grow while many others lose members. They are proud to fly the flag for Monmouth wherever they perform and this concert will be one you simply cannot miss.
Tickets £15 available online www.monmvc.org.uk or from Stephen’s Bookshop, Church Street, Monmouth.
The event is sponsored Monmouth Town Council and Tabor Charitable Trust.
