IT’S 15 years since Off Centre Theatre staged the original “Allo! Allo!” at the Savoy and the group is excited to bring the hilarious sequel, “The Camembert Caper” to the Monmouth audience.

This adaptation of the award-winning TV show is guaranteed to be an audience-pleaser with its wacky, but timeless comedy.

The story is set, as ever, in German-occupied wartime France and is centred around the adventures of reluctant resistance hero and much harassed Nouvien café owner, René Artois. It also features many favourite characters from the series.

René, his wife Edith and their café waitresses, Mimi and Yvette, endeavour to repatriate two British airmen, and embroil themselves in complicated, and at times life-threatening schemes. General Von Klinkerhoffen demands a fortune in francs in recompense for the loss of the infamous painting of ‘The Fallen Madonna with The Big Boobies’ and René is expected to come up with the cash.

But nothing is ever easy. The local undertaker, Monsieur Alphonse, is making advances on Edith. René’s mother-in-law, Fanny, objects to the radio used to communicate with London being hidden under her bed. No one can understand what Officer Crabtree (the British agent disguised as a Policeman) is saying.

Michelle of the Resistance has a series of increasingly hare-brained proposals. Gespatapo leader, Herr Flick, Colonel Von Strohm and Captain Geering all have their own plans to get hold of the money, and Lieutenant Gruber still wants to take René away for a ride in his little tank... The cash, a set of forged notes and a bomb all end up hidden in identical camembert cheeses.

What could possibly go wrong?

Tom Rigby, OCT chair, is directing the play and has brought together an excellent cast and team who are committed to bringing a wonderful show to the Savoy stage. The play rounds off our productions for 2026, which is the group’s 40th year.

Off Centre Theatre has a reputation for sell-out performances and this play is set to repeat that, with tickets going fast for the run at the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth from Thursday November 19 to Saturday November 21. Curtain up is 7.30pm for all performances.
