This year’s Medieval Festival on Vauxhall, sponsored by the town council, is taking place on the 4th and 5th July.

There will be three reenactment groups coming - Freeman of Gwent, Free Company of Aquitaine and the Angevins-, on everything from medieval writing, to food, clothing and of course arms and armour.

Tom Livingstone, a highly skilled heritage mason, will be setting up his mason’s lodge and Helen Ackerman, local blacksmith, will be bringing along her forge. Highlights on the programme will include the ever-popular tours of the Monnow Bridge gatehouse and of Monmouth Castle, taking place on both days, sword demonstrations and children’s sword school at the castle, falconry displays at Vauxhall Fields and axe throwing (Sunday only) at Vauxhall.
