FORMER Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop of Monmouth, Rowan Williams, is returning to the town’s Savoy for an evening hosted by poet Pele Cox, in aid of the St Mary’s Tintern restoration fund.

Dr Williams will reflect on his life and work, and share readings from his own poetry and pieces that have inspired him, on Friday, October 2 (7.30pm).

There will also be an opportunity for questions afterwards.

This uplifting event celebrates the enduring connection between poetry and spirituality.

Proceeds will support the Lower Wye Valley Building Preservation Trust ‘s efforts to preserve St Mary’s.

Recently scheduled as an ancient monument by Cadw and Grade II-listed, St Mary’s is a striking Gothic ruin overlooking Tintern Abbey, but is currently unsafe and closed.

Tickets £15 from the Savoy box office and website.
