Popular arts festival ‘Art in Penallt’ which raises money for local charities is back in its Monmouthshire village home over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The three-day event takes place from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 August at three adjacent venues within Penallt, nestled in the beautiful Wye Valley countryside.

It will showcase the best talents of artists from across the region and feature a wide variety of art and craft forms for sale. High quality art exhibitions, contemporary work, sculpture, a makers’ market, art demonstrations and workshops are among the many attractions on offer. There will be exciting new artists showing their work alongside established favourites and event patrons: potter Walter Keeler, artist Alex Brown, and sculptor Christine Baxter.

The event organisers, all local volunteers, have for the first time partnered with the Gwent Wildlife Trust whose Pentwyn Farm centre will host a series of family-friendly events focused on the wildlife and ecology of the area. Pelham Hall will house the main fine art exhibition along with the makers’ market. The village’s Bush Inn plays host to a sculpture garden, in addition to a display of artwork by the students from Monmouth’s two secondary schools, and the Made in Monmouthshire art and crafts co-operative, who will be in residence in a marquee.

Caroline Peters, Chair of Art in Penallt said: “We are really excited this year to celebrate the area’s artistic talents at three venues which form the heart of the village. The sites are easy to walk between and, whether you are a knowledgeable art enthusiast or casual observer happy to browse, the event will offer something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. All the net profits from admissions, sales and a raffle will again go to local charities. We are proud that previous efforts have raised a cumulative £25,000 for the good of the community.

“Be inspired by works of art, invest in an original painting or sculpture, watch artists at work and learn about the creative process, shop at the artisan stalls, stock up on unusual cards and take a break with on-site refreshments. For those who want more hands-on experience we have daily art workshops tutored by professional artists. Still available to book are an ‘en plein air’ painting day working in oils, and a watercolours workshop at Pelham Hall
