Monmouth Rambling and Hillwalking Club members will be out and about on Sunday February 5 to visit Much Marcle, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 then a hamlet of 36 households, which is where the club starts their eight mile walk.

Passing Mortimore’s castle motte and Baily near the church of St Bartholomew where the tomb of Blanche Mortimore the youngest daughter of Sir Roger Mortimore can be found.

Later they visit St Mary’s Church Kempley. There is an alternative short walk of 4.5 miles around Llanvihangel Ystern Llewern and Penrhos, with an 80 metres climb then fairly level undulating terrain on paths through fields , woods and lanes. Four stiles. Lovely views of the Skirrid and Sugar Loaf.

New members are always welcome to join Monmouth Rambling and Hillwalking Club. There is a small annual membership subscription.
