The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) (R Mon RE(M), like most UK Army reserves are re-rolling to make them more deployable in the future.  

The engineers are to be aligned with a Royal Engineer Group based near Nottingham, who are responsible for infrastructure construction and repairs. 

With this new role imminent, the regiment agreed with Monmouth County Council, to repair the most deteriorated sections of Ancre Hill Lane as a training activity, that reflects the type of task they may be called upon to carry out on operations.
