An electric vehicle sharing scheme that launched in Abergavenny this summer has been hailed as a nationwide pioneer on national television.

The new TrydaNi car club, which launched in the town in June, continues to grow as members of the community look for alternatives to car ownership in their quest to boost sustainability where they live.

That said, the members of the Abergavenny club can link up with other TrydaNi vehicles and branches across the UK, while one intrepid adventurer even took the town’s newest car all the way to London for the day! But with all jokes about the Big Smoke and a zero emissions vehicle aside, it has been going from strength to strength so far - and now its gained national recognition.

As many in the UK settled down for their evening ritual last Wednesday, many locals were pleasantly surprised to see their town in the limelight at the top of the bill on The One Show. The group that spearheaded the campaign to bring TrydaNi to Abergavenny were thrilled.

“We were delighted to see the Abergavenny TrydaNi electric vehicle loan car scheme featured on The One Show, on Wednesday 29th July. Thanks to several of our local members of the scheme who were featured,” a spokesperson for Greener Abergavenny said.

“Since then [June] we are averaging close to a booking every day during July as the Scheme has taken off, with some very positive testimonials, including a successful day trip to London, several members combining for an evening trip to “The Retreat”, collaborating if there are questions via the whatapp user group, and more.”

“We still have plenty of space for new members and the prospect of adding a second car in the future if we can demonstrate there is the demand. That will make the scheme even more attractive.”
