ON Friday 22nd October the Welsh Department at Chepstow School held a Welsh day called ‘Shwmae’ and raised almost £700 for the British Heart Foundation.

Students were encouraged to start every conversation with a ‘Shwmae’, an informal Welsh greeting, and a non-uniform day was held with students encouraged to wear red, green or white.

Year eight students participated in a quiz and Twmpath dance, with the school folk band providing the accompanying music (pictured).

This was part of a national celebration with hundreds of businesses, schools and other venues hosting events throughout Wales.

It was an opportunity to celebrate the Welsh language in the area and within the school. A total of £697.78 was donated to the British Heart Foundation.
