Llandogo Early Years nursery has been recognised for its ‘outstanding’ practices by Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales.
It was the only education facility in Monmouthshire to receive one of the 34 awards handed out in a ceremony held on Friday, 20th October.
The awards recognised the 34 schools, colleges and other settings that were judged to be excellent for one or both of the overall judgements for current performance and prospects for improvement or in three or more inspection areas.
The nursery received a rating of excellent on four of the six inspection areas and good in the remanding two.
It also had two case studies written about its practices, the first, highlighted how the nursery carefully monitored children’s play to assess which skills are stronger and which require additional development.
The second covered how the children at the nursery benefit from an outdoor learning strategy which teaches them about the natural world and enhances their curiosity, social skills and wellbeing.
Chief inspector, Meilyr Rowlands congratulated all the providers on their success.
He said: “Celebrating the excellence in our education system and recognising how it was achieved will help to inspire and drive improvement across Wales. The Estyn awards both commend hard work and commitment while highlighting strategies that lead to success.“
