Rush hour traffic on the A40 was held up in Monmouth yesterday morning (Tuesday 19th April) as a lorry caught fire.
Police and four fire crews were called at 7.45am and found the lorry alight north of the Gibraltar tunnels.
Officers re-directed traffic and temporarily stopped vehicles joining the northbound carriageway as the lorry was moved into the nearby council depot.
No-one was injured and both the slip road and lane two of the carriageway were re-opened by 8.15am.
Firefighters are not treating the fire as suspicious.
