SIR,

It was very interesting to see the photo submitted by John Morgan of the tank being paraded through Monmouth.

I cannot help him with the dates or the occasion, but it was nice to see the shop which was next door to Whitecross House in the background.

I am sure many of your readers can also remember the shop which was occupied by Mr Landau, who had an antique shop there.

Perhaps some of your readers can also remember the shop being partly damaged by a runaway lorry carrying cases of tins of meat. The shop was so badly damaged it had to be demolished.

The area was paved over and trees and bushes were planted by the council. I see the area now has bollards erected and a car is usually parked on it, perhaps a better use of the land would be to put some seats there to enable visitors and locals to enjoy.

John Smith
