Witnesses say around 20 people were involved in a disturbance that occurred over two nights on the grassy area by Monnow Bridge which spilled over to the area by the bridge itself.
The chip shop was forced to close its doors Saturday as the fighting continued while police tried to contain the disturbance.
A spokesman for Gwent Police said “We received a report of a disturbance involving a group of people near Monnow Bridge, Monmouth, at around 5.45pm on Friday 8 August.
Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
