A Monmouth grandfather has hit out at people who ride bicycles on pavements after his disabled grandson was seriously injured when a bike crashed into his wheelchair.

Gerry Bright's grandson Alex Owens was being taken home to Grosmont Close by his carer last Tuesday (23rd August), when two young cyclists came speeding around a blind bend on the pavement and crashed into him, breaking his leg.

The extent of the 14-year-old's injuries were not instantly known as Alex, who is severely disabled and unable to talk, could not communicate his pain.

"We could tell he was in discomfort but did not know where he was hurt," said Mr Bright.

"We called for the doctor to come out but he said he was unable to attend and recommended we take Alex to accident and emergency in Nevill Hall Hospital in our car."
