DEVAUDEN’S popular bonfire night celebration has been lighting up the Monmouthshire sky since the 1950s and this year is once again set to go off with a bang with more than £2,000 worth of pyrotechnics ready for take-off on Thursday 5th November.

Entry is free, with donations welcome. As well as the fireworks there will be live music, a traditional bonfire with a Guy Fawkes made by local scouts, bar, bangers and burgers, candyfloss, roast chestnuts and glowsticks.

One of the reasons Devauden is so successful is its secure and illuminated adventure playground from which children can enjoy the show and play safely on an array of apparatus including a zip wire.

The village has recently been granted planning permission to extend the facility with a rustic play area for children up to seven years old and money raised at this event with go towards construction early in the new year.

In 2013 the event was a victim of its own success with so many people turning up and parking on nearby roads that the village was gridlocked. Last year after consulting with the police and safety advisory group a plan was devised to direct drivers to designated car parks, with a clear drop off and pick up point, and properly marshalled walkways leading to and from the display.

This year there are further improvements with walkways illuminated along their route for added safety. Once again the small lane between the green and the hall entrance will be closed for emergency vehicles only, the three main roads leading to the village will be no parking zones and a 10 mile-per-hour speed limit will be in place.

The event opens at 6pm. The band will start playing at 6.15pm and the bonfire is lit at 6.30pm. The fireworks display starts at 7pm
