THE former BT telephone box in Agincourt Square is now a defibrillator station, thanks to funding from Monmouth Town Council.

The Environmental Affairs committee suggested the redundant kiosk be adopted by the council and converted for use as a publicly accessible defibrillator point. Working in conjunction with Community Heartbeat Trust, and with help from Thomas Brown electricians, who offered to install the machine free of charge, the machine was finally made available yesterday (23rd June).

Town mayor, Councillor Graham Pritchard thanked all those who had contributed to the effort to provide a life-saving machine for use by members of the public.

"It's a very special day for Monmouth," he said, " and another example of how we help the community of Monmouth."

He went on to thank Sue James, clerk, Jane Lloyd and Terry Christopher, chairman of the Environmental Affairs committee. He also thanked John Morgan, and William Hall, who repainted the kiosk, Heartbeat, electrical engineers Thomas Brown and the Punch House who have offered to keep an eye on the kiosk with their CCTV camera.
