Montoos netball team played Allsorts in their first game of the season last Wednesday evening (21st September).
It was a daunting task for the new squad, as Allsorts are a strong team from Ross-on-Wye, but the team got stuck in straight away with good defence work from Zoe Crossley and Sally Price, and managed to keep the scoring to three-three at the end of the first quarter.
Allsorts, missing a few of their regular players, began to find their shooters in and around the circle and slowly pulled away to 13-five in the second half, despite good interceptions from Leigh Spence and Ginny Johnson.
The team continued to work hard and decided to change their defence, which proved very costly, giving Allsorts the opportunity to increase their lead and dominated the third quarter with good shooting from Claire Godwin and a score of 24-seven.
Montoos quickly altered their positions, putting Kirsten Moncur at GS with Sarah Chowns at GA. This was the best quarter for the team, scoring five goals against Allsorts' seven, but it was too late for the squad and Allsorts won comfortably with 31 goals to 12.
