Dan Fisher's excellent five wicket haul was not enough for Monmouth Cricket Club as they could only claim a winning draw in their tie with Feckenham in Division 2 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League reports Dan Risk.

Skipper Dan Head won the toss and chose to bat but Monmouth failed to capitalize and eventually finished on 180-9 from their fifty overs.

Openers Jonathan Jones (20) and Fisher (24), Wayne Etheridge (28), Dave Teague (23) and Australian Jamie Craig (23) were the main run scorers but all failed to turn promising starts into big scores.

Feckenham's opening bowler Matthew Page bowled a superb unchanged spell, finishing with impressive figures of 4-73 from 25 overs including six maidens. Matt Henning (3-48) and M Kings (1-52) were also amongst the wickets.

In reply, Feckenham made a cautious start to their innings with only 16 runs on the board after 15 overs. Fisher removed opener Daniel Bloomer (24) before taking a stunning caught and bowled, eventually finishing with 5-39 from his 15 over spell.

Fellow off spinner Aled Jones marked his return to the first team with two wickets and the ever impressive Jonathan Roberts also took one wicket, taking his season tally to 43.

Tail end resistance from Feckenham ensured they held on to the losing draw with their score at 138-8 after 50 overs.

Monmouth, sponsored by Misbah Tandoori Restaurant and The Priory Nursing Home, host relegation threatened Romsley & Hunnington next week. The match balls were sponsored by Club chairman Pat Baker and Dave Willett Gents' Hairdresser.

Meanwhile, an exceptional team performance from Monmouth Seconds resulted in a maximum points haul against Feckenham Seconds in their 2nd XI Division 2 encounter.

Put in to bat by the Midlands side, Monmouth posted a very handy 240-6 with teenage Josh Grey recording his maiden league century with 101. Newcomer Syed Abid also reached a milestone with 56, despite surviving a few early scares.

Martin Newell bludgeoned 33 with skipper Jag Saran (11) and all-rounder Dan Risk (10) also reaching double figures.

N Fawkes (2-38), Greg Griffiths (2-67), left arm swing bowler Paul Hird (1-40) and Jason Haines (1-20) were amongst the wickets with 14-year-old leg spinner Jamie Griffiths bowling a splendid spell without reward.

In reply, Monmouth made an early breakthrough with left arm seamer Risk removing the dangerous Luke Wright for 27.

However, the ship was steadied by all rounder N Fawkes (79) and wicket keeper Jamie Reddish (34) and the game was set for a thrilling end.

Veteran duo Idris Leonard (5-76) and Dave Wilding (3-65) showed age is no object by producing marvellous spells with Feckenham Seconds collapsing from 153-2 to 227 all out. Newell also claimed a wicket to finish with 1-29.

Simon Docking and Saran also took very good catches with the ever reliable Jon Despontin taking a stumping and keeping tidy behind the wickets.

Monmouth travel to Romsley & Hunnington Seconds next week hoping for a repeat performance.
