FIFTEEN-year-old Daniel Morgan is stable in hospital after an accident at Monmouth Leisure Centre last week.
The teenager was crushed when a 1.8m high concrete partition wall in the male 'dry' changing rooms fell on top of him prior to his games lesson last Tuesday (23rd October).
An investigation into the incident has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive. The decision on whether or not to prosecute will be made upon the investigation's conclution.
"All the staff at Monmouth Leisure Centre would like to wish Daniel a speedy recovery.
"'Our thoughts are with Daniel and his family" said Monmouth Leisure Centre manager Nick Butler.
A statement released by Monmouth Comprehensive School said: "The whole school community's thoughts are with the student and his family.
"The student is charismatic and engaging and is admired across the whole school. The student, later in the academic year, will be taking a lead role in our school production.
"We are all waiting for him to return and wish him a speedy recovery."
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called out just after 2.10pm to release Monmouth Comprehensive School pupil Daniel (pictured, below, at Wyesham Scout Hut in 2009) from the concrete wall.
Five teams attended the scene, with two engines coming from Ebbw Vale, two from Malpus and one from Monmouth.
Daniel was then carried out to an ambulance that had attended the scene where he was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny with a leg injury. Continued on Page 2

He has now been moved to the University Hospital in Cardiff.
Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) officers and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) spent Wednesday determining the cause of the accident.
"The centre is only 12 years old and was subject to a full structural survey three years ago," said an MCC spokesman.
"It is regularly maintained and we had no concerns about a maintenance backlog or any on-going problems with the centre.
"Following the accident we have conducted a thorough test of the leisure centre and the county's three other leisure facilities.
"No problems have been identified and the type of wall does not appear in any of our other leisure centres.
"Our primary concern continues to be the welfare of Daniel, his family and the young people who witnessed the accident.
"We have offered them full pastoral support which will continue throughout the investigation process and as long as it's needed afterwards."
Monmouth Leisure Centre remains open.
MCC leader Cllr Peter Fox said: "We're obviously shocked and upset at this accident and Daniel and his family are uppermost in our thoughts.
"I wish him a speedy recovery and can assure the public that we are giving our full support to the on-going investigation into the cause of this accident.
"We have also carried out safety checks at our other leisure centres and are confident that they remain safe for public use.
"The school's headteacher and the governors have been fantastic and have worked hard to support the school through this difficult time.
"I would like to add my thanks to the emergency services for their fantastic response to this and also to our own staff who were on the scene less than a minute after the accident and carried out first aid on Daniel before the arrival of the paramedics."
