Chepstow’s streets were crowded on Remembrance Sunday honouring the nation’s commitment to remember the sacrifice of the fallen and the contribution of our Armed Forces to our safety and freedom. It was a great occasion.

The donations to the Poppy Appeal have been, as ever, very generous and the Royal British Legion thanks everyone for their support. Last year, the Chepstow Branch collected some £27,000 for the Poppy Appeal and we can provide details of how the money was spent nationally last year. Membership of the Royal British Legion is open to anyone, not just veterans, and we would be glad to see some newcomers in our ranks.

Thank you to the Town Clerk and her staff for organising the parade, for the vicar Rev’d Philip Averay for a moving service, Will Williams for acting as parade marshal, for the standard bearers, the bugler from 1 Rifles, and for all organisations, wreath layers and individuals who paraded. It was a moving and dignified occasion.

Gp Capt (Ret’d) Bob Grattan
