Around 1000 people turned out for Redbrook's Live on the Wye music festival across the weekend, which was hailed by organisers as an outstanding success. The event kicked off in the Friday evening sunshine with a Fringe event and barbecue at The Bell Inn. Songwriter Mark Abis and his band, The Three Pilgrims, attracted the crowds with distinctive, folk inspired melodies, before covers band The Vibe took an up-tempo turn with popular music through the decades. On Saturday the community turned out in force – along with festival goers from as far afield as London, Somerset and the Midlands. 10 top quality acts played across two stages on the banks of the River Wye, ranging in style from folk and rock to funk, reggae and soul. There was also award-winning food, real ales and an action-packed programme for youngsters. Organisers say the event was the biggest and best yet. Festival chairman Sarah Sheasby said: "We set out with big ambitions this year to establish Live on The Wye as a regional event and a showcase for top quality music. "We've been overwhelmed by comments from visitors and bands about the music variety, friendly family feel and beauty of the setting." John Adams of X Factor fame had the crowds singing along to covers as eclectic as Bob Marley and The Jungle Book while also playing his latest single, 'The One'. Missin' Rosie got people on their feet with frantic fiddles, while Climbing Trees' flawless harmonies and epic sound radiated across the field. Headliners Big Mac's Wholly Soul Band went down a storm with hundreds of dancers. Sarah added: "We would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who came along and helped us to take this year's event to the next level, as well as all our volunteers and supporters – The New Grove Trust, Sunshine Radio, Kingstone Brewery, The Bell Inn, Network Sound and our headline sponsors the Monmouthshire Beacon and Chepstow Beacon."
