Make your shed secure

MONMOUTH Police are appealing for information following three incidents involving the theft of power tools and garden equipment from sheds and outbuildings.

The value of the property stolen is in excess of £1,500.

The crimes were committed during the daytime/early evening of Wednesday, February 21st, and coincided with the sighting of a white coloured car seen touring the Tregare and Penrhos areas. The occupants of the vehicle when spoken to by a local resident stated that they were looking for a particular farm where they had an appointment to carry out tractor repairs. From initial enquiries it would appear that this explanation was false.

Unfortunately, the registration number of the vehicle was not taken and local police are appeal to all members of the community to remain vigilant in respect of suspect persons or vehicles seen and to record as much detail as possible.

They are also warning people to make their sheds and outbuildings secure.

Inspector Peter Davies said: "Basic security measures can be implemented at relatively small expense in order to deter the would be thief. However, it is also important to mark all property with your postcode and the number of your house or the first two letters of the house name. In the case of garden and power tools mark them in large lettering using a permanent method such as engraving or stamping. This will not only hopefully deter the thief but also possibly help in their recovery at later date.

"Finally, advertise the postcoding with 'coded for keeps' stickers available from your police station."

Anyone with any information on the recent thefts is asked to contact Monmouth Police Station in 01600 712321 or free on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where calls are dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Anyone requiring further security advice or a free crime prevention survey of their property is welcome to contact PC Dai Arnold at Monmouth Police Station.
