SIR,
On reading Mr J Bowen's letter in your Beacon on 25th August re 'Morgan's eight-wicket haul', I remember taking eight wickets for 17 runs in the early 60s for Monmouth First XI Sunday Team against Hereford.
Although we bowled them out for 70, John Chadds' Hereford side skittled us out for 32.
Incidentally, traveling back home, earlier than expected in Phil Harris' car, the five of us had one thing in common – we were all out without troubling the scorer.
Sometime ago I related this story to Kevin Barnikel (a very useful spin bowler), who informed me that his best bowling figures for Monmouth were nine wickets for 23 runs against Blaina (this he confirmed on Friday 27th August when I met him in Monmouth) and due to his good fielding he ran the other batsman out, for which he was sorry as he might well have claimed all 10 wickets.
