Record breaking staff from The Courtyard Centre for the Arts have completed the Wye 100 Canoe Challenge in just four days.
Eleven staff members from The Courtyard in Hereford completed the task in record time, with the team rowing a gruelling 25 miles every day.
The expedition down the River Wye saw the intrepid team encounter rapids, fast flowing currents and daily capsizes, as they paddled 100 miles over four days between Llyswen and Bigsweir Bridge - the first time this stretch of river has been canoed in just four days.
The challenge was a staff fundraising initiative to raise money for The Courtyard’s community work throughout Herefordshire. Supported by Hereford Canoe Hire, who donated the canoes, and Tesco Hereford who provided vital snacks and drinks.
Team leader Phil Pearcy, said, “This was a great challenge, canoeing constantly for four days. It was really hard work but worth every minute, especially since we are supporting The Courtyard.”
Lucy Wells, Business Development Manager at The Courtyard, commented, “We are really proud of our team of intrepid canoers. We applaud their efforts, and are delighted that they have raised nearly £2,000 between them to support our local work. We are still inviting donations to help us reach our target.”
It is still possible to support the expedition by donating to The Courtyard online at www.justgiving.com/courtyardcanoers.
