A MONMOUTH speeder has paid out over £1,000 for driving 44 miles per hour in a 30 zone.

Shane Blandford, 48 of Watery Lane, Monmouth, pleaded guilty at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court to exceeding the limit on the A4042, Kingsway, Newport.

Blandford was ordered to pay a £666 fine, £130 in costs to Gwent Police, and a £266 surcharge. His licence was also endorsed with five penalty points.

He must make the payments by next month.
