SIR,

We must have all been very disappointed at the Estyn report which made the headlines in your newspaper last week.

At first I could not believe Estyn had made the right judgements as the results at Monmouth Comprehensive School are very good. It was only after downloading the report that I realised it was not the schools being criticised but MCC for not supporting our schools as they should be.

The cabinet member responsible is Liz Hackett Pain and she has quite rightly had the finger pointed at her for a "lack of strategic and operational capacity". I have not seen any apology from her and I note that she has not done the honourable thing and stepped down from her well paid cabinet position.

Are we really surprised when she (as other main line politicians) does not use the comprehensive school but prefers to send her children to private schools outside the county.

Alan Pain
