For motorists using the Wye Bridge in Monmouth, the misery of traffic chaos is almost over.

Roadworks, which are due to be completed next Monday (25th July), have caused tailbacks from the bridge up into Wyesham, leaving drivers with queues of up to 45 minutes simply to drive into the town centre.

County Councillor Liz Hacket Pain has now tabled questions concerning the current re-surfacing of the Wye Bridge Road and some adjoining roads.

It has been reported that the difficulties have been caused by contractors removing the traffic sensors in the bridge carriageway in order to resurface the road.

The traffic sensors are understood to operate the timing system for the traffic lights at the junction of the Wye Bridge and the A40 dual carriageway.

"It is quite apparent that now the sensors have been removed, the lights only let a few cars through at a time," said Cllr Hacket Pain.
