Drivers living in or visiting Chepstow face disruption over the coming months as Monmouthshire County Council put in place restrictions relating to Covid-19.
From Monday, July 13 there will be a temporary prohibition of driving order in place on a section of High Street, Chepstow - except for loading and unloading between 4pm and 10am - and from the junction with Welsh Street to its junction with Beaufort Square.
There will also be temporary 20mph zones covering all residential roads excluding the A48 and the A466 road network.
The council notice says the order will continue to be in force ‘for a period not exceeding 18 months or until the measures are no longer required, whichever is the earlier’.
It adds: ‘This is necessary in order for the council to provide various safety measures within the towns and villages of Monmouthshire because of the likelihood of danger to the public as a direct consequence of the coronavirus.
’It is considered that these measures will continue to assist with social distance, allow businesses to reopen safely and create a safer highway network for all road users.
‘Due to the nature of the works, motorists will be expected to find alternative routes, as these will not be signed.’
