SIR, As a Monmothian I have read with great interest your story on the internet about Carbonne Close and Surrounding areas being Horror Estates. I grew up in Monmouth and many of these problems lie within the local council. When I grew up in Monmouth there was never anything for us to do as children. For many years local residents have repeatedly asked Monmouth Town Council to provide more amenities for the youngsters of the town, but time and time again the council has failed to provide these. Take for example the Rolls Hall this could have been a great venue for activities and was left to the people of Monmouth for their enjoyment, instead it was turned into a library, which many youngsters do not use. I for one left the town many years ago because it remained a sleepy little place with no activities, hence the reason even back in 1994 as youngsters we used to sit in the streets with our cheap bottles of cider and cigarettes. It's about time that the council woke up to reality and pulled their socks up and started putting the people old and young of Monmouth first. Paul Wadley Ward (Torremolinos Spain)
