SIR, On Saturday 15th November I travelled to the small village of Garway in Herefordshire. Here lies the community venue known as 'Garway Live'. This small venue, in a quiet village delivered several surprises. Firstly, the hosts Dave Atkinson and Mikki Pullen, members of a team that run it were welcoming and friendly and keen to show its attributes. The tables were arranged in a cosy and intimate style facing the stage. The atmosphere was charming and filled up quickly. The state set up was impressive and cameras were at the ready, as the evening was being filmed live by Inashed.TV for a live webcast. This nod to technology was surprising giving the location. The final treat was the band booked for the evening, it was the Rob Lear Band. Rob a talented Welsh singer/songwriter and who has links to Van Morrison, Justin Haywood and the 60s group Amen, has been around for a while both as a solo artist and more often now performs live with an eclectic group of musicians. This pedigree group, includes Liz on accordion and percussion, Brett a talented guitarist and Van Morrison bassist Pete Hurley. The evening kicked off with I Want You, Snow Blind and the track Little Acorns produced by the Manic Street Preacher's celebrated producer Greg Haver. After a trio performance and an enthusiastic reception from the audience, a brief interlude saw the second set featuring the whole ensemble of the Rob Lear Band. The clarity of Rob's voice and subtle accompaniment by Liz and Brett on vocals had the audience captivated. The second half saw many of the tracks from Let It Go, Rob's debut 12 track album released last year, 2013. The album was mixed and co-produced by Richard Thomson's Grammy nominated producer Simon Tassano and has received praise from the great man himself. Let It Go has also received wide praise and reviews from the established music press including Americana UK, Plugged In Magazine and A.M.P. An extremely well organised event, Rob and the band received cries of 'more' and were happy to sing and play a few more tracks. Before I knew it the gig ended. An hour and a half later, Rob's fan club had surely increased in number! Afterwards many people chatted with the Rob and the group and were quick to get their hands on copies of Rob's CD Let It Go. Rob played 'Garway Live' in August 2013 and had been keen to play this great venue again and was delighted to be asked to come back to a sell out evening. The venue which hosts music and theatrical events has a back catalogue of well known artists and performances including Amy Wadge, amongst others is definitely worth visiting. An excellent website http://www.garwaylive.com">www.garwaylive.com offers lots of information and online booking for up and coming events. I chatted with Mikki and Dave afterwards and it would be difficult to meet two more enthusiastic people. Bringing music and performance to the community is at the heart of what they do. Highly recommended I dare you all to make the trip to Garway, you will not be disappointed. Ann Dierikx (Talgarth)
