More than £8,000 in community grants was presented to 17 voluntary and charity groups in Monmouth by Mayor of Monmouth Jeana Hall on Thursday 31st March.

The event, hosted by Monmouth Town Council's Community Affairs Committee, was held in the Shire Hall.

Each of the successful groups had the opportunity to showcase their work on a display board or by DVD.

Jeana said: "It was a great privilege to meet such a fantastic group of representatives of Monmouth's passions.

"Very difficult decisions had been made by the committee in order to share out the budget fairly, but the evening was a delight.

"To be able to show the community's support for the work of these groups, by helping with a small boost to their funds, was a great pleasure."

Groups which received grants were: Action 50+, Dance Blast, Homemakers, Attik (Africamp), Monmouth Tea Dance, Monmouth Civic Society, Abergavenny Eisteddfod, Monmouth Cricket Club, Bobath Children's Therapy, Monmouth Community Under Fives, Monmouth Lifesaving Club, Monmouth People First, Monmouth Women's Festival, MYS Triathlon, Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets, Shelter Cymru and Monmouth Savoy Trust.
