Monmouth Tri Club is celebrating the end of a busy season with Michelle Lea take on the RoadFord Lake Standard Triathlon in Devon, winning first female and 9th overall, destroying a 1500m swim in the vast Roadford Lake, followed by a 46km undulating cycle and finishing with a 10km run.

On the same weekend, Claire Jackson aced the New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon at Ellingham, coming seventh female overall and second in her age group, taking the 2.4 mile swim in a personal best of 35 minutes, 43 seconds, the 90km bike in three hours, and the hilly 21.1km run in one hour and 44 minutes.

The start of autumn saw two podium finishes at events in beautiful lakeside settings. Jak Smith wound up a magnificent season with a second place at the Bala Standard Triathlon on 7th September. Finishing in 1 hour, 53 minutes and 17 seconds, Jak was first out of the water, battering a choppy 1.5km swim in just 17 minutes and 8 seconds; he took the 37km bike in 56 minutes, 38 seconds and the 10km run in a blistering 36 minutes and 57 seconds.

On the same day, two club teams battled it out in the Cotswolds Lake 62 Super Sprint Team Tri in South Cerney, Cirencester. Working in relay, participants had to complete a 300m lake swim, 8km cycle and 1.km trail run before the next member could hare off with the timing anklet.

The men’s team, featuring Anthony Wright, Andrew Hillis, Nick Wellsted and James Peters stormed home in just over two hours, coming 12th out of 59 teams.

And finishing in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 34 seconds, the second team with Sharon Neville, Victoria Baker, Rowena Christmas and Kelly Major enjoyed a podium finish with first female team home.
