Volunteers at Skenfrith Church are once again cleaning up after yet another flooding event.

Storm Claudia brought an unprecedented level of river water to the village that only faced a similar event last year with Storm Bert.

Despite flood barriers being erected at the front and back of the church, the water overwhelmed them to once again coat the church floor in a muddy brown layer of silt.

Luckily the Cope, a pre-Reformation Catholic vestment, was unaffected, but the chancel carpet was not as the flood waters rose to over 16 inches inside the Grade 1 listed building.

The village hall saw nearly 3 feet of water sweep through the building, but if there can be a silver lining to these dark rain clouds, it was that the kitchen, ruined in 2024 by Storm Bert, had not been replaced.
