Chippenham Playing Fields parkrun is just over one year old and is a 3.5 lap course around playing fields. It’s predominantly flat apart from a very short climb at the northern tip of the larger loop.

The weather was warm and sunny with a surprising 17C starting temperature.

A field of 90 athletes began, with a prompt start at the Chippenham Parkrun and the field spread quickly on the first lap of the rugby pitch.

A short trail section from the larger loop was clearly marked with cones leading to a repeat of the smaller loop around the rugby pitch, which was completed 3 times prior to the clearly coned finish straight and the funnel. The signage and course markings were unambiguous and excellent throughout and this was a really well organised event.

The highest Age Grade percentage went to Alison Stuart, rolling back the years in the VW50-54 category running just over 21 minutes with a score of 79.21 per cent! Outstanding!

The most decorated athletes were Bridget Smart with 418 events completed. Also, Marina Wright, the only other athlete to amass more than 300, with 316.

A special mention also, to John Gibby in the JM11-14 category who clocked a very impressive 19.29.

They welcomed two “first timers” to the parkrun family Saturday, September 23: Liam McCartoll and Aidan Welch.
