"It's going to be a great event and I can't wait to be part of it". Those were the words of Boyzone star Shane Lynch as he helped unveil plans for Wales's biggest motoring show. The Wales Modified and Motorsport Show will be held at Chepstow Racecourse on August 30/31 and organisers say the emphasis for visitors will be on participation. At the launch event director Peter Hughes said "there will be some fabulous vehicles on display to look at but we also want our visitors to get involved in the event." Leading rally school Gwynnespeed will be offering passenger rides around a rally special stage while Xtreme Off-road will be providing an off-road safari around the grounds of the racecourse. For younger visitors there will be the chance to drive an electric go kart in a safe environment, try out a radio controlled car or race on a giant slot car track. Meanwhile Shane, who currently leads the British Drift Championship, will be at the show on both days demonstrating his winning technique. Drifting is the relatively new sport which originated in Japan and in which drivers are judged on their ability to hold their cars at seemingly impossible angles as they round corners without spinning, generating the maximum tyre smoke in the process.. The Live Action Arena will also host a range of other displays on two and four wheels. The Saturday of the event has been designated the Wales Modified Show with the emphasis on modified road cars with local enthusiasts entering these for a variety of competitions such as a "show and shine" and an award for the best car club stand, while in the evening a circus big top will be the venue for three top local bands, including the Blims, plus djs all hosted by Dan and Pancho of Dirty Sanchez fame. Sunday is the family orientated Wales Motor Sport Show although both days will feature the full range of displays, demonstrations and activities for visitors to experience. Admission to the show is from £11 with a full range of day and weekend tickets for individuals and family groups bookable from the web sites.
