David and Sue Maddocks opened their beautiful garden at Pen y Bryn Farm in Devauden, Chepstow to the public, to raise £967 for farmers in financial difficulty.

The event was organised by R.A.B.I’s Monmouthshire committee, who raised more than £6k for farming charity R.A.B.I last year.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) is farming’s oldest and largest welfare charity, giving out grants of around £2 million each year in Wales and England.

Much of the charity’s funding comes from public donations, events arranged by its 54 regional county committees and support from businesses and community groups.

Last year, R.A.B.I gave out more than £14k solely in Monmouthshire.

Guests in Chepstow were served afternoon tea in a colourful marquee, feasting on a variety of sandwiches and homemade cakes following a pleasant and enjoyable stroll through the garden. A raffle was also held during the afternoon.

Gwilym Richards, Monmouthshire chairman, said: “I’d like to thank David and Sue Maddocks for their kindness and generosity in allowing us to host this event at their home.”

R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, added: “We were incredibly fortunate that the sun shone and the garden was a joy to behold. We would like to thank our volunteers in Monmouthshire for putting on this super event. We couldn’t do what we do without you.”
