75 BRAVE people abseiled down St Mary’s Church tower last weekend to raise funds for Monmouth Youth Project’s ‘the Attik’ youth centre and the ‘21 Plus’ group who work with families who have a child with Down’s Syndrome. Early indications suggest nearly £3,000 was raised.
Monmouth Youth Project’s Barry Englefield said “considerable thanks go to those who took part and perhaps more importantly to those who generously paid to sponsor them. As one kindly soul put it they rather pay the sponsorship than do the abseil themselves!
“Thanks also go to the Gwent Outdoor Education Centre in particular Rik Walker and Tom Burrett who provided the safety briefings, instruction and support to help every person complete the abseil. A special thanks also goes to those volunteers who helped throughout the day. All day groups came by to support their ‘abseil’ team and this helped create a wonderful experience.”
He added, “We are hugely grateful to all the sponsors and teams involved who supported these causes so generously. “
