SEVEN local charities were presented with their Community Matters cheques by Adam Jones, Deputy Manager of Waitrose, at the cafe at Waitrose, on Wednesday 6th July.

Monmouth Carnival Volunteer Group, Meeting the Needs from Overmonnow School, Friends of Redbrook School, Friends of Dingestow, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Monmouth and District Rifle Club and Mitchel Troy Playgroup benefitted from the green token scheme where each month, Waitrose donates £1,000 between local good causes - the more tokens a cause gets, the bigger the donation they receive.

The children, parents and staff from one of the good causes, Mitchel Troy Playgroup, would like to say a big thank you to the store and the customers that supported their appeal.

Sue Davies, one of the organisers of the group explained that the pre-school is a community-based self-funded charity organisation with little financial assistance other than the money they raise themselves, “help such as this from Waitrose proves to be invaluable to our resources. The money given will be spent on new sensory equipment to help facilitate the seven areas of learning which enriches the children as they learn through play,” she added.

If a charity would like to apply for the Community Matters scheme they can pick up an application form from the Welcome desk at Waitrose Monmouth.
