Monmouth has won the regional round of a national competition to find the best business towns across the UK

The town was entered in the Town/ Business Community category in the UK’s Top Towns for Business competition by chair of the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, Sherren McCabe-Finlayson.

She said she is proud to have entered the town and its business community into and won the Enterprise Nations’ UK Top Towns for Business Competition, Regional Award for Wales sponsored by Dell and Intel.

“We were up against strong competition in the form of Newport and Swansea, especially when it came down to the public vote” she said.

“100 towns entered the competition, so we feel honoured to have been shortlisted and thrilled to have won” she added.

“It’s been a huge privilege to represent the business community for the past two and a half years and it’s incredibly special that we win this award in the year the Chamber celebrates 100 years, supporting the business community.

“This award was presented for more than just our members, the wonderful shops, tradespeople, professional services, schools, newspapers, magazines and business that make the town so special. The award was also for the strong collaborations we have with Monmouthshire Beacon, Monmouthshire town and county council officers and councillors whom we’ve worked with successfully and harmoniously, especially over the past few years.

‘‘I thank everyone, but most importantly a huge thank you to everyone who voted” she said.

The UK’s overall winner was Camberley.
