Catherine Fookes, MP for Monmouthshire, joined residents at Abergavenny Pride at the weekend to celebrate International Pride Month.

Catherine took part in the Pride march through the town alongside the new Mayor of Abergavenny, Bryony Nicholson, before ending up at Abergavenny Castle for celebrations.

The event came shortly after the publication of the UK Government's draft Bill to ban conversion therapy, a ban which Catherine has long supported.Catherine Fookes MP said:"It was fantastic to see so many people at Abergavenny Pride - and all of our other Pride events across Monmouthshire - celebrating our LGBTQ+ community and everything it brings to our area.Events like Pride are all about celebrating who people are and showing that everyone should feel safe, respected, and able to be themselves.

I'm also really pleased that this year's celebrations come alongside the publication of the draft Bill to ban conversion therapy. This is something that is long overdue and an important step towards protecting LGBTQ+ people from harmful and outdated practices.Thank you to everyone who organised such a brilliant event and to everyone who came along to celebrate.”

Abergavenny Pride occurs every year, involving a march through the town centre and celebrations at Abergavenny Castle.
