CATHERINE Fookes, MP for Monmouthshire, has met with Angela Jones, local river campaigner and founder of Save the River Usk , to discuss pollution in Monmouthshire rivers.

The meeting was part of Catherine’s ‘Summer Rivers Tour’, where she is meeting local campaigners, activists and organisations to discuss the challenges facing Monmouthshire’s rivers and hear their ideas for tackling pollution.

Catherine will take the concerns raised during the tour back to Parliament, where she will continue to push for action to protect and clean up the county’s rivers.

Catherine Fookes MP said:

“It was really useful to meet with Angela and hear more about the issues facing the River Usk, as well a what she believes needs to be done to clean up our rivers.

Angela is a relentless and inspirational campaigner, and I’m grateful to her for taking the time to speak with me and share her experience. I look forward to taking these concerns to Parliament when I return next week.

“While the Usk is a devolved matter for the Welsh Government, many of these issues also apply to the River Wye, and I’ll continue pushing for action in both Westminster and the Senedd.”

Catherine is already campaigning for the introduction of Water Protection Zone across the River Wye to help tackle pollution, prevent soil erosion and better protect the river.
